Rusty - thanks for the kind words about my song, and right back at ya! Singing a capella is tough enough, but you made it look so easy. Great stuff!

Sandy; powerful voice, powerful message. 'Chills' is right. Really cuts through the crazy world we live in and gets our feet on the ground again. Thanks for coming to our open mike. You were well recieved.

Being her husband I am kind of bias. I have herd this song practiced for the previous few weeks, due to work hours I have not been able to go to the songpulls to watch the live performances. This was an OUTSTANDING!!! performance. My ear tells me that it should ONLY be performed Acapella

I was fortunate to hear this song in person at the Raymond Open Mike - I got double chill bumps from the live performance! While a flute would be a nice touch, I have to say your voice is beautiful enough to carry the song just the way it is - keep 'em coming!

Sandy…that was absolutely ethereal, causing one to let the mind soar above all that is, allowing the psyche to move back through time and experience what was…both wonderful and tragic. Life lost in the past, gone yet lingering. Pushing the present forward to transcend and accomplish real peace and harmony.

I remember the quiet which immediately overtook the room as you began this song. Everyone was captured by the words and the tone. It was difficult to get up afterwords, shake off the emotion brought on by this and get into mine own silly song. Powerful.

You sing it so well that I don't even think that you would need any background music. This tune is going to stick in my head all day. Great job.

Rusty,

Thanks for the nice words about "Loser". The lyrics sort of dicated a country style. I'll see what I can do with some blues next month. I did write a retro-blues tune that was covered by a great singer on the west coast named Ava Dupree. You can hear her version on my website www.swunk.com. Scroll down to the bottom of the page. Maybe we could try a duet if you'd like to sing it.

Performed in Manchester, NH at Songpull 12

About the Song

I went to fort Sill, Oklahoma to see my son graduate from basic training in the Army. As I was waiting for him to go on pass I went to visit Geronimos’s grave & started to chant a tune I had been hearing. The Cherokee word for she wolf or wolf woman, somehow became the chorus & I wrote the last two verses. After seeing a young native American flag – thoughts turned to my son & I finished the song. I dedicate it to all the young men & women who serve. And to Black Elk a great healer & medicine man of the Olga Souix.
